Year 3 trip to Holt Hall

On Tuesday 17th May, both Year 3 classes visited Holt Hall to find  out about how people survived in The Stone Age. The purpose of the trip was to use some prehistoric techniques to survive.

The day began with us collecting herbs from the herb garden. Each class was grouped together in 3 tribes; each tribe had to use natural materials that they could find to help build a shelter. We all collected fuel from the woodland, and thought about what three ingredients are needed to make a fire: fuel, oxygen and heat. Fire safety was discussed, and whilst the adults lit the fire, the children used flints and knives to prepare fish, which was later cooked over the fire with some bread, and eaten. It was an amazing experience and everyone learnt lots more about what it was like to live during the Stone Age.
