Times of school day

The playground is supervised from 8.40 am and the children are able to go into their classes to meet their teacher from this time.
Getting to school
For safety and space reasons, the school car park cannot be used by parents to drop off or pick up children. Parking is also not permitted in Vane Close, where yellow lines are in operation morning and afternoon. School parking permits are available for those who have special access needs; please ask at the school office. Most of our children walk or cycle to school. We have plenty of space in scooter and cycle racks, but we do ask parents to ensure that children get off their bikes/scooters and push them once they have entered the school grounds.
NB: For health and safety reasons, dogs are not permitted on the site. We also ask that dogs are not tied up on the school fence at the back of the school, as they block the cycle path.
Settling in
A programme of visits will be arranged in the term before the children start school in the Reception class, so that children and parents get to know the school and its staff and routines.
At the beginning of the Autumn Term, Reception teachers visit new pupils at home, so that they can get to know the family really well before the children start school. From September 2011, all Reception children will be entitled to start school full time from the beginning of the academic year.
Safeguarding
We take safeguarding very seriously. All adults who come into regular contact with the children are subject to checks in line with DfE legislation. Our policies on Child Protection and Safeguarding are comprehensive and copies are available from the school office and on this website. We are committed to working with families to ensure the safety and well-being of our pupils.
A kind hand
We believe that young children do occasionally need a friendly touch if, for example, they are upset. All adults – staff and volunteers – who regularly visit the school are familiar with our Safe Touch Policy, and know when a quick ‘school’ hug or hand hold are appropriate.
